Ingredients:
- 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups confectioners sugar
- 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes for garnish
- Chocolate shavings optional, for garnish
Instructions:
Warm your oven up to 350 F 175C and put paper liners in a cupcake tin
Sift the cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a bowl
Fill the bowl with dry ingredients
Then add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract
Mix everything together well
It will be smooth after you add the hot water and mix it in
Its okay that the batter isnt very thick
Fill up each cupcake liner about two thirds of the way to the top with batter
Its done when a toothpick stuck in the middle of a cupcake comes out clean after 18 to 20 minutes of baking
Let the cupcakes cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then move them to a wire rack to cool all the way down
Get the salted caramel buttercream ready while the cupcakes cool
Beat the unsalted butter in a bowl until it is pale and creamy
Slowly add the powdered sugar and salted caramel sauce to the butter while beating it
Keep beating until the frosting is fluffy and smooth
Put the salted caramel buttercream on top of each cupcake after it has completely cooled
You can pipe or spread it on
If you want, you can add sea salt flakes and chocolate shavings as a garnish
Serve and have fun
